We started hair and makeup for my little homecoming queen about 2:30pm and the rest of the weekend is just a blur. She looked just beautiful for her special night and I am so glad I didn't have to work so I got to see the entire game and the half time homecoming court.
It was a late night but finally I got home and into bed. It was later than I like to go to bed especially since I had a race the next day, and not a small race, a half marathon. I was so worried about not getting my bag packed or forgetting something that it took forever to get into bed. So up at 4:00am and on the road. My precious sister drove me up there in the horrible fog and at the most horrendous hour. We made it in time for the race.
This was the Women's Half Marathon and my nieces birthday present. Lots of women, lots of pink, and the fact that I only got about 4 hours of sleep made that a little bit annoying. It was kinda cool being in Nashville, there were bands playing along the race course and lots of supporters out on the trail.
The race started off pretty good. I was not trained for this one like I should have been, ok, I was not trained at all for this distance. I have been running 3 days a week but nothing near this distance. But I had a plan, 3:1 for the race or until I got tired, the 2:1 then 1:1 if I needed too. I started off way to fast, but soon found my groove. I was keeping a pretty good time for the first 6 miles or so. About mile 7 the bottom of my foot started to hurt pretty bad. I kept going but was having to walk more. About mile 9 it was really really hurting. I had to stop and loosen my shoe strings hoping that would help. It did not!
At mile 11 I was not sure how much more I could take. I finally got to a downhill and could not stand to run on the foot at all. 2 more miles that is all I had to make it. It was two more brutal uphills and 2 more downhills that I could not take advantage of. I was getting frustrated! I had more miles in my legs to run but my foot just could not take the impact. So I walked.
There were lots of supporters along the run. There was an entire water station set up that was a toga party!!!! Cute boys with sheets on for clothes, that will give any girl a good smile around mile 6!
I wish you could see them better....good looking boys!
Since my foot was hurting I was able to notice a lot more of the route than normal. I cant wait to see the photos from this race because every time I saw a camera guy I gave him a fun little face or dance move to capture!!!!
Coming into the finish line I was a little disappointed but also pretty happy that I had finished with the amount of training that I had. I have a blister on the bottom of my foot but the soreness was really only bad for a day. I am ready to start running again.
Oh let's try that again!
Another race, another finish, another medal for the collection. All in all a good time!
Once I got home it was time for a much needed NAP! Everyone that made the trip to Nashville went home and took a nap. We got together for dinner that night and them my little race partner and I had a late night trip to the hot tub. I think that may have helped with the soreness a
I think I have finally recovered from the lack of sleep and soreness all together. And what was still lingering is gone now. This morning I got a pedicure. Cured up the blisters and everything.
Just keeping up the pink theme now!!!!
Now I must run because it is very much time for bed again. Hope you all had a great weekend!
