Lesson Learned

Well this weekend I decided to have a little fun. Basically I realized that I am dangerously close to 30 and I want to get some of my fun and crazy stuff out of the way before I get to old for it to be appropriate. So....I decided it was time to put a fun little color stripe in my hair. I did it Saturday night after conferring with the sisters about the color. Pink: overdone, Red: not me, Blue: maybe?!? Purple: We have a Winner!!!!!

So I did it, big purple streak right in the front of my already bleached blond hair. And I love it. The lesson to be learned though....don't dye your hair right before Halloween. Everyone thinks I have on some sort of costume. Boy will they be surprised tomorrow.

Self Portrait of the color streak, really weird picture but I cant get a good angle of the top of my own head!

Hey all....

I know I have been a little distant this week but I have been on home reno extravaganza this week. My house is officially for sale and I am trying to spruce up some things that I have let go in the last few years. They didn't bother me enough to fix but now that I am selling I want it to look great.

I also and on a budget of...well...nothing so I am doing everything by myself and paying nearly nothing to do it. So far I have transformed 2 rooms for under $100 bucks. Basically a can of paint and a lot of hours and patience. You know I have pictures too.

Master Bath: You try painting in a bathroom this size. I was high and bruised from turning around over and over and breathing fumes!

There is a yellow shower that cant get into the picture...I haven't even figured out how to fix that yet and I am kinda scared of the options I have.

Ahhh more Harvest Gold....How I love Harvest Gold!!!!

The Original: How could you do any better than this?

So so so so so so much better.

Pretty pretty white. I think bathrooms and kitchens should both be white. Clean and beautiful.

Just pretend that you cannot see the shower!

I am trying very hard to do all the work by myself and learn how to do it for next time so each project has taken a few extra minutes because I either messed it up or went really slow so I didn't make a mistake. For example, replacing the light fixture....I had to reposition myself 3 or 4 times so if I did get electrocuted I could fall off the vanity in such a way that I would die! I didn't shock myself (Proud moment!)

I have managed to get all this work done and still get in my workouts. I have just been doing one a day while I am trying to get all my projects finished. I figure this work has to be burning calories, if not the work the shower while trying to get this paint off my skin has GOT TO BE burning calories. I have paint from head to toe, literally. (The speck under my chin is my favorite)

Today is the only day I didn't get to workout in the morning time. We would have run but it was raining pretty hard when we got up so no running today. I'm in a dilemma for tonight, do I go workout after work or go finish my projects. Oh, I will just have to study on it for a little while longer.

Well, now you know what I have been up to this week. Maybe this weekend I can finish up everything and get back to my normal gym rat lifestyle but this week helped me prove that workout time and special projects can both be accomplished, you just have to be willing to be a little bit sleepy for a day or two.

Happy Birthdays

DON'T TOUCH ME! I love sharing cupcakes with small children, but DON'T TOUCH ME!

This has been a birthday full of weekends. haha. My sisters birthday was Sunday and we celebrated with some yummy yummy cupcakes and then today was my running buddies birthday and I didn't get any cake but I got a yummy mid-run breakfast break. We actually ran 4 miles this morning but it was 2 miles out, breakfast, 2 miles back. Happy Birthday!

Our run this morning was one of the best I have had in a while. I ran way more than I walked and felt good for the majority of the run. I felt like I was running fast too, I know my blistering pace isn't much for some people but it was faster than I have ran in a while. Another reason I think it was a better run is because most of my lunges/kettlebell soreness has been worked out. I am still having a touch of hip pain but that stupid hip has been hurting for months now, I'm just getting used to it now! Really, it doesn't matter why, it was a good run. Yeah!!!

So after my run I was in a pretty good mood. I was jazzed up for the day. It was off to work. I did job #1 then off to job #2. My desk chair is no longer comfortable and makes my hip hurt, but I have discovered that sitting on a exercise ball is much more comfortable so I have moved to a workout ball for the rest of the night.

I packed all my clothes up this morning for my evening workout. I was planning a cycling workout so I didn't pack my good sports bra of my good shoes. It made since to me. There is not a lot of bouncing that goes on when you are riding a bike. But then I got the opportunity to go do the Zumba class tonight. I haven't done it in months and I had forgotten how much fun it was. There were some new dances that I didn't know at all but I was able to keep up, bad bra and all. So now, I have done all my workouts for the day and get to go home when I get off work and don't have to worry about working out once the gym closes! WOO HOO!

Looks like starting the day off with a good run makes the whole day better!

Thank You Very Much Zooey Deschanel!!!!!!

This has nothing to do with the topic of my blog but as a Music Major in college and a singer for my entire life I just have to address this on my public stage. I do not watch Baseball, actually I do everything in my power to not have to watch it but I am aware that the World Series is going on right now because it shows up on my news stories...that's about the only reason I know that. Anyway.....

I was eating dinner last night and the game came on and I got to see the National Anthem. I was so very impressed at the performance by Zooey Deschanel. I knew she could sing and know that she actually has a few albums out, but in my eyes she is an actress not a singer.

She knew all the words, sang the song like it was written and did a wonderful job with a very unique voice! After some of the performances in the recent past it was a refreshing surprise to hear someone sing the song the way it was meant to be sung!!!!

Good Job Zooey!!!

Ouchy Ouch

I woke up this morning, in much more pain than I was in yesterday, much more pain. I knew day 2 of the soreness would be worse but its been a while since I have hurt like this so I kinda forgot what it was like. (I learned that I can once again to lunges, I haven't done them in months cause they hurt my knee but they felt good on Wednesday so I jumped right in there and did them too.) Amazingly enough I slept remarkably well, that is 2 nights in a row now, and I am hoping for a few more like this and I might catch up on months of crappy sleep if I keep it up. I think its the weather and the cooler house, and the more intense workouts to credit for the better sleep. Anyway.....

When I got up this morning I woke up ready to come to class and apologize to my ladies for hurting them and making them sore. I went a little bit early and got in a run with my running buddy, who by the way has been taking my class and is as sore as I am, haha. I took the 12 step, 30 minute walk up the steps to class and I was feeling guilty; I hated that I hurt them. So I walked in and asked, "Is everyone sore?" And all but one person shook their head "NO!!!" I couldn't believe it. How could they not be hurting?

I was glad that they were not sore because they would hate me if they were. We did our class for the last time this week and again they did an awesome job. I just love these ladies, they complain a lot but they do it. Just proves that the work can be done, no matter what your age.

Now, I know that my soreness might have been made a bit worse after the kettlebell workout. Yes, I did the workout last night. It was much more learning the movements and the correct technique but I know that it was a good workout because I felt myself winded several times during the workout and when I walked out my legs were shaky. It is definitely something I will do again, class or not, I will try to incorporate some of these exercises in my daily routine. I would suggest it for anyone to try. I have heard several people say it hurt their back when they did it but I did have any problem with my back, not yet at least, its just the thousand ninjas stabbing my quads, hammies, and calves with knives swords. My back is good.

I have no weekend races this week, it feels almost like an incomplete weekend if I don't pack a race in there somewhere but I have to work all weekend so I wouldn't be able to do one anyway.

Nighty night folks....hope you have a good weekend!

I Found this to be Interesting

I have jumped on the organic food band wagon as best as I can, but I am on a tight budget these days and organic food is definitely more expensive than the non-organic options. So in my attempt to remain organic I chose to buy all my meat and dairy organic and the rest when it was available. I couldn't afford the 45 minute trip to the grocery to spend $50 more.

Then I came across this story today about the differences between organic and non-organic milk and I might have been converted back to regular milk. I choose organic milk for health reason and not environmental ones (say what you will about that comment) and this was just interesting.

Biggest Loser In Review

Ok so I am a few days late with this one but I have so much to say. I am finally starting to get favorites and getting ready for some to leave.

I have a fave for both the men and women. I am just loving this guy from TN, Vinny. I feel like he is fixing to bust out and be great. He has been a bit disappointing so far but I can just feel like he is fixing to do something amazing. By the way, he is on the Red Team.

My favorite girl is the girl on the Black Team who is hurt. I think her name is Jennifer but I am not sure on that. I am way impressed that she has continued to drop as much weight as she has with very limited activity. She is apparently working pretty hard if she is losing numbers like that.

And the fact that none of her team likes her makes me like her even more!

And I have some least favorites as well. This Sunny girl who went home this week for the entire week and took her trainer with her. I do not like her. She is just getting on my nerves. She did well this week and 14 pounds is a big number but how much harder could she have worked in the last few weeks that she has been not dropping big numbers, huh, huh?!?!? And then when she did good it was like she was trying to cry on the scale but she just couldn't quite work up some tears. Basically she is just bothering me right now!!!!

My other one that I really don't like is the Old Lady on the Blue Team. I don't know her name and I have such high hopes that she will be sent home next week that I am not even going to learn it. (ok, so I just cant remember it right now) I understand that this show is about helping everyone, and I really think that is an admirable goal. They have helped older individuals before, but the ones they helped were able to do the workouts. This woman is not able to walk up the stairs to weigh in without pain. I feel for her, I really do, but she either needs to kick it into gear or go home.

This is shaping up to be a good season, I hope it keeps going in that direction. I had to stop watching the old episodes because I was getting all my seasons mixed up. I'm all in on this one now!

It Got Coooold!

Wow, we have officially gone into fall into the south. All of a sudden too. It was 80 degrees on Saturday and last night we got into the 40's. It just jumped out there and got COLD!!! And I LOVE it!!!!

I think I am the only person that is loving this new weather change but I am indeed. I actually had to put on a toboggan to run on Wednesday because it was just a bit chilly to run without one. I think it might be my blazing speed or the fact that it was 40 degrees, either way, wonderful.

I know I said this before but this week I have been teaching the morning class at the gym. Well I was sore on Tuesday, but today I have taken sore to a whole new level. I wanted to do something a little different so we did new exercises on the legs....and today I cannot walk or sit or stand! I hope my ladies are not as sore as I am.

And to top it all off I am taking a new class tonight. Its only new to me. I am doing a kettlebell workout. I have heard of this and actually watched one but I have never done it. I was invited to do it and I figured I might as well give it a shot. I hope I can do it. I have a feeling its going to be lots of squats and legs and that is what is shot on my body right now. I will do it, I just might pay for it tomorrow. You know, tomorrow when I have to go back and teach class again!

Wish me luck tonight and wish my legs luck tomorrow!

Weekend Races, NoBo Graduation, Good Time

This Saturday our No Boundaries group had their final run. 10 weeks of hard work all to run the Liz Hurley 5k Ribbon Run, benefiting breast cancers research and equipment. I was so very proud of my entire group. I have run for 10 weeks with the same group of women and they did so good. I was one proud little coach.

Look how cute we are at the start line.

This is the biggest race I have ever run. Over 5000 people. That makes for a crowded run.

Because of the size of the race my group had trouble getting through the crowd for about the first mile, but once it thinned out a little bit they were on their way. Looked like they had done it 1,000 time before. They kept up with the intervals and ran it like it was something they had done every day for the last 2 years. I only had one that slowed down, she kept the intervals just fine just a bit slower than the others. Crossing that finish line with someone who is completing their first race is so fun. It was also pretty fun for me cause I got to see some people that I haven't seen in years. I enjoyed getting to catch up with some High School folks.

I had to bolt when the race was done, we had a volleyball tourney this weekend and then a basketball jamboree. It was a crazy Saturday. I thought I was actually going to have the weekend off...boy did that change quickly. It was fun season, new sports! Now I get football and basketball, my 2 favorites at the same time.

On Sunday we had to go to Fleet Feet for our graduation celebration. And at our graduation celebration I got a new pair of racing tights just in time. It is officially starting to get cold, woo hoo!!! I really like the ones I got, the Nike DryFit. They don't squench my waist off and they are long enough to not ride up under my knees. I have gone through a lot of tights to find the perfect pair and those got discontinued so I have found a new pair that I like. (for now at least)

This week I am substitute teacher extraordinaire for my morning body toning class. I met my running partner for a quick run and then off to teach class. And I am sore now. Really??!?!? I get to teach this class on a semi regular basis and I am sore. uh. I am fighting through the soreness and working today. I must vent for just a moment. I took my car to the shop today because something is wrong, it is some sort of sensor or gauge or something, I didn't listen to that part, and it is taking forever. I was told 1 to 1.5 hours, well 4 hours later I still have no car and I am stranded and I have an appointment to get to today. I just wish it was done when I was told it would be or even close to the time frame I was given.

So far today, no workout yet and I have no idea what I am going to do tonight, but I know I am going to do something! Don't forget, BIGGEST LOSER TONIGHT!!!!!

Nurse FatGirl

Sexy Nurse: That's if you find a hacking, sniffing, drippy person sexy right. I am still a bit under the weather but I am feeling better. I have been playing little nurse maid to my dad again. He had a little knee surgery yesterday and as many of you know you are not allowed to be alone after surgery for 24 hours. So Sister #2 took him to have his operation and I took the second shift.

He did amazingly well and really all I had to do was be his legs for a little while. He could walk but needed to stay off of his knee as much as possible. But I am definitely tired today. We played musical beds last night. Every time one of us got up the other would too. My cough kept him up, his potty trips kept me was a vicious cycle.

Anyway, I have still been doing well on my diet. I have eaten out in the last few days because of the situation but I have tried to make some good choices.

Tomorrow is RACE DAY! I seem to have run a lot of races lately but I really haven't. Tomorrow is the graduation for my No Boundaries group. This group has done a really good job and I am proud of them. The race in the morning is the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run benefiting Breast Cancer so I am pretty excited. I like races that are for a cause. Hopefully there will be a big turnout, that is not the best thing for a new running but hopefully it will be an exciting day and they will love it!

I think I will be even more excited about it once I get a little bit of sleep.

Wish me and my group some luck tomorrow, this is some of their first race.

Too Much!!!!

Video: Disneyland Surprise

I saw this video yesterday and called so many people to get them to watch it. I couldn't figure out how to share it...until now! So cute I had to share with you all.

Under the Weather

Hello All,

Look at me posting early today. I guess that is only fair since I didn't post at all yesterday. I had to work late last night and I opted to skip my late night workout for bed because I am a little bit sick.

It's that poor pitiful me type of sick, I just have a cold and a cough but it is beginning to drive me crazy. I am just ready to feel better already. Today is already better than yesterday but still not 100%.

I went home last night and got straight into bed. I didn't even pack my bags and food last night. I did wake up a little bit early so I could get all my stuff together. Sometimes when I decide to wait until the next morning it never happens but today I actually woke up on time and packed up.

I did get to run yesterday, twice actually, once yesterday morning with my running partner and then again yesterday afternoon with my NoBo group. My morning run ended up being mostly walking since every time my heart rate gets above 85 I start coughing uncontrollably. But then last night I ran with the group. This run was better than the morning run but I was hurting by the time it was over.

Tonight I get to swim and hopefully I can get my workout done and get home before the day is totally over because I have some major work to do around my house. Now I just have to figure out what is for dinner before I get home. I have still be doing good on my diet so lets go ahead and make the good decision now!

Day 2, Still Going Strong

I know it is funny to really act like I am starting over but its the way my brain works. Two days of good solid workouts and quality food gives me a sense of power that I needed for myself. It helps me get my willpower back on track.

I needed that will power this morning more than ever. Yesterday, my food was on track and I set up a quality workout for after work. My workout was much harder than I anticipated, and I created it myself so I should have known better.

This Machine: EVIL!!!!

This Workout: Even EVILER!!!

I'm not as sore as I thought I would be after the workout but I am definitely tender in some places! I have another doozie scheduled for today and I also have to clean my house and mow my yard so there is some calories to be burned.

Today I drew the short straw and had to take the 5am shift at work, yuck! And this is where the willpower came into play. Every single time I work the morning shift I stop and get a biscuit from Hardee's. The wonderful buttery, eggy, cheesy biscuit (remember I'm fat, I obviously think food is amazing and if I cant eat it I will talk about it) that taste sooooo good. I actually have gotten this biscuit every early morning shift, on track or not, I just add it to my calorie count for the day. This morning I was not willing to jeopardize my new "on trackness" for a few bites of pleasure.

So instead I got to work and fixed my yummy bowl of oatmeal. I actually like oatmeal but not near as much as a biscuit. I have some snacks packed up for the rest of the morning then off to the rest of my day.

I wish you guys could see how the spell checker has reacted to this post. Apparently I made up too many words and spell checker does not like it.

I have been trying to get back into my normal life and out of vacation mode. I have finally read all my back issues of SELF magazine (love it) and found some new workouts. I am also so happy to announce that Biggest Loser has finally put all of their seasons on Netflix. That's just an extra boost of motivation. I am finally getting to watch some of the earlier seasons that I never saw or only saw a few episodes. In 2004 I was not obsessed with the show or becoming healthy so its fun to have some new favorites.

Alright, I'm off for the morning, no one should post before 7 am unless you are a mommy blogger with children who don't sleep, or you have to be at work at the butt crack of dawn!

Day 1 of Starting Over....

Hey went really good. I was on track with the workouts and the food today without having a raging headache from sugar withdraw. All in all it was right on track.

The day did go a little longer than I had hoped for. I didn't get a morning workout because I had to work so I extended my nighttime workout. I finally left the gym about 11pm and then still had to run to the Wal-Mart. I was home at about 11:30pm. I was hoping to be well into dream land by now.

I also got into my magazines tonight to find some new workouts to shock my body back into fat burning mode. There is always a new thing that is the fat burning extravanganza of the week so I will try them all to see if they are all they are cracked up to be. If I find anything worth mentioning I will pass them on. One of them is exceptionally interesting, 3 different workouts, 1-3 times a week, fat burning power over the top!!!!

And there is one more thing I forgot to mention after vacation. My shameless plug from vacation...

I can already hear what you are thinking, "oh crap, she is talking about Body Glide again." And you would be so right but I have found a whole new use for it that I never knew before.

While at the beach some of my babies got irritated by the sand and salt so every single time they got into the ocean it would set their skin on fire, like crying/pain, and the aunt inside me wanted to make it better.

Luckily I packed for vaca in my gym bag and I always have Body Glide in my gym bag so we got them cleaned up and applied the Body Glide and they were able to get in and out of the water with no pain and no more burning. Wow!!!

This product gets better and better every single day!

Well ,I think that wraps me up for the night, I have to go to bed so I can be rested and ready to go again tomorrow. Who knew being back on track could take so much effort, I'm just adjusting I'll get used to it again I'm sure.

Hello....I'm Back!

I know I kinda fell off the grid for the last few days but I have always been told to not say you are going on vacation before you go because people will know you are out of town and try to rob your house so I am happy to announce now that I am back in the real world now after 5 days of vacation. It was a great trip with lots of time in the sand, an ocean full of jelly fish and tons of good fresh seafood.

I have enjoyed my days off and it was a much needed family vacation. And now it is back to the real world, work, work, workout and weight loss. I am so ready to get on track. I have actually been ready for about 2 weeks but I didn't want to go grocery shopping right before my trip (and nothing pisses me off more than getting back in the swing of things and then going away and screwing it all up.) So today when I got home I went straight to the grocery store and got the good food in my house.

I always try to be honest on here and this is it. I know I have said it before and I will say it again. For the last 6 months I have eaten my feelings and I have put on the Funeral 50. Its not really 50 pounds but I like the alliteration. I have put on about 35-40 pounds and I am so uncomfortable. My fat pants are to tight and I want to get back into my clothes and get rid of this extra weight.

If I counted all the weight I have lost and then put back on and lost again I would have lost about 300 pounds by now! Seriously!!!!

So wish me luck or join along as I get back on track. I am ready and I know some others out there are ready to start on the dreaded Monday, but join me tomorrow, Thursday and lets do it together! Here goes...yet again!

Just to finish off, on more pic from vacation, it was taken by accident but I think it is just beautiful.
